お題は「オンラインコースは従来の授業より効果的か」について、
費用、相互作用、柔軟性、やる気のうちの2つを用いて
小論文を書きなさい。
I think online courses are more effective than traditional classes.
New innovations in technology and communications,
we can access and use online courses much easier than before,
it is even kid-friendly.
（従来の授業よりオンラインコースのほうが効果的だと思う。
新しい技術革新やコミュニケーションにより、
こどもたちも以前よりオンラインコースを使いやすくなった。）
These days, every grade of the pupil can attend online classes,
as well as traditional ones,
particularly if they are sick and need to stay at home.
It was a great help to me when my kids got Covid-19
and they needed to stay at home for almost two weeks in isolation.
Thanks to online courses, my kids didn't miss out,
and many students can catch up with their studies much more easily
than before.

ロンドンのパルが書き換えて、私が「さすがネイティブ！」と思ったのは
kid-friendlyという表現。こどもにもやさしい、と訳すのだろうけれど、
私は「こどもにも簡単に操作できる」という英作文にしていた。
kid-friendly!!これよ、これ！私が言いたかった言葉は。
他にも出席停止、two weeks suspended(一時停止）と書いていたのだけれど、
two weeks isolation（隔離）になっていて、
これも、こういう言い方をするのか～となった。
disinterested(無関心）やengaged（参加させる）など
使ったことがない単語もあった一方、
一番、頭に残ったのはすでに知っていたaccess。
オンラインでは田舎の子でもいろいろな先生に出会うことができる、
という書き方を私はしていたけれど、
「言いたいことはわかるけれど、ちょっと当惑させる言い方」
…と彼女が書き直した文章が、
"you have access to the great teachers"で、
あぁ～！！そう言うのか！と膝を打った。
ライティング、勉強になるわ～と関心しきりだけれど、これ、
赤字が多すぎるとやる気を削ぐのよね～。
ロンドンのパルは私のそんな性格も知っているので
「根を詰めすぎないで！あなたに頼まれたから直しているだけよ！
前にあなたが書いた文章でも十分に意味はわかるわよ！」と
私へのフォローの嵐の前文がついていたけれど、
赤字の文章、というより段落を前に、ため息が出る…。
赤字をやめて、オレンジの字にしない？と提案しようかしら。
赤がダメなんだ、きっと…と思うことにする。
